The unexpected twist: a conversation about diversity and inclusion in technology
We all know that technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, but it’s also a rapidly diverse and inclusive industry. As we continue to grow and change, it’s important to approach technology with a new perspective and an inclusive mindset.
A recent conversation I had with a colleague revealed just how much we need to think about diversity and inclusion in technology. We were discussing the recent survey that found that 61% of white employees feel that their departments are not diverse and inclusive, and we were both excited to find out what we could do to make our companies more diverse and inclusive.
The conversation got me thinking about how we can approach technology in a way that is respectful and inclusive of all people. As white employees, we can take a few simple steps to ensure that our companies are diverse and inclusive.
First, we need to make sure that we’re understanding the diversity and inclusion needs of our colleagues and customers. We need to be aware of cultural and social differences, and we need to approach our work in a way that is respectful and inclusive of all people.
Second, we need to be visible and active in our companies. This means being actively involved in community events and programs, supporting diversity and inclusion projects, and advocating for policies and actions that support diversity and inclusion.
Third, we need to be transparent and accountable. We need to be able to track and report on the progress of diversity and inclusion efforts, and we need to be accountable for the actions of our colleagues and our companies.
Finally, we need to be lifelong learners and open-minded. We need to be willing to adapt and learn new things, and we need to be open to different perspectives and ideas. This means being willing to consider alternative solutions and being open to new ways of doing things.
By taking these simple steps, we can ensure that our companies are diverse and inclusive, and we can create a more respectful and inclusive world for all people.
